Dental Anxiety & Sedation Dentistry
Our compassionate dental team shares a keen understanding of dental anxiety and dental phobia, which is why we have created a relaxing and comforting atmosphere for our patients. For us, it’s not enough that you receive comprehensive dentistry for a healthy smile. We also want you to feel at ease when you’re under our care. We want you to enjoy your time with us and look forward to your treatments.
Our compassionate approach to dentistry means we are always here to hold your hand, and we take our time to ease your fears and help you acclimate to treatment.
Besides our relaxing atmosphere and compassionate team working together for your comfort, we can take extra steps if you need further reassurance.
Comfort Technologies
We offer televisions in every exam room, along with noise-cancelling headphones, Netflix, Kayo Sports and Disney+. We have found that even very anxious patients feel more at ease when they can get lost in a favourite program or sporting match.
Sedation Dentistry in Lower Templestowe
We offer Penthrox and oral sedation in our dental clinic. Your dentist can use these relaxants alone or in combination based on your anxiety level. These options are ideal for lengthy treatments or ongoing procedures like root canals or dental implant therapy.
However, if you’re feeling especially anxious, or you or a family member have special needs, we can make sedation a regular part of your dentistry.
We provide sedation for patients of all ages.
Penthrox
Penthrox is an inhalant with a unique fruity scent. It is used to reduce pain and provide sedative-like effects. Some patients refer to this sedation, delivered through an inhaler, as the green whistle because of its packaging colour.
The effects of Penthrox do not linger for long after you’ve stopped using it, but we still suggest someone accompany you home from your dental treatment as you may feel sleepy.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is a pill taken before treatment. Typically, patients are unable to recall their procedure despite being only consciously sedated. With this method, you can still respond to your dentist’s verbal prompts but with action instead of speech, retaining the ability to follow simple directions, for example.
If you decide on oral sedation, you’ll need a friend or family member to drive you home from our dental clinic. And you’ll likely feel tired for several hours afterwards, so we suggest not making any important decisions until the following day.
Learn Whether Sedation Dentistry Is Right for You
Your Lower Templestowe sedation dentist takes a thorough health history and talks to you about current medications before moving forward. We want to make sure that sedation is safe for you.
